Ireland’s national organisation for one-parent families is
recruiting a Fixed Term (January – December **Apply on the
website**), Part-Time Specialist Family Support Worker. One Family is
Ireland’s national organisation for people parenting alone, sharing
parenting, or separating. We offer specialist family support
services to one-parent families, and we campaign to improve the lives

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The Specialist Family Support Worker will have a dedicated focus on
the needs of lone parents who are parenting infants and young
children, mainly aged * years. Our focus is on
one-parent families who may have experienced unplanned pregnancy,
isolation and loneliness, belong to ethnic minority communities, have
the experience of domestic violence, be parenting alone or sharing
parenting with the child’s other parent/legal guardian.
This role will take an infant mental health approach with a clear
focus on the social and emotional competence of the young child,
supporting the parent in meeting the needs of infants and young
children in reducing risk factors, and to prevent and/or ameliorate
emotional problems in later childhood/life.
The role will support the organisation to maintain a focus on the
needs of infants and young children and their parents, parenting
alone, who form part of the diverse community of one-parent families
in Ireland today.
The role will contribute to ongoing learning and improvement in One
Family’s response to one-parent families actively parenting infants
and young children. It will increase our opportunities to work
alongside other professionals seeking to promote learning and
implement best practice models in responding to the needs of
one-parent families.
JOB DESCRIPTION – RESPONSIBILITIES
* Contribute to the provision of direct supports to children and
parents of one-parent families parenting children who are primarily
* years old.
* To take direction from the Practice Manager in processing
referrals.
* To work as part of the Parenting Team in One Family and closely
with colleagues across all One Family services.
* Engage parents in the process of acquiring dual consent, for
direct child engagement in services.
* Deliver group-based and one to one support to both children and
parents (Stay and Play, Positive Parenting, Parent Support.
* To engage in interagency work as required to support children and
parents accessing services.
* To engage in networking, with front line practitioners to support
referral pathways.
* To support the delivery of social supports to families engaging
with One Family services.
* To deliver standalone workshops/information sessions as requested
within the broader community to support one parent families.
* To contribute to ongoing learning and improvement in One
Family’s response to the needs of one-parent families from ethnic
minority groups, those living with the experience of domestic
violence, and isolation and loneliness.
* Maintain all quality/professional standards and codes of practice.
* Attend relevant internal and external supervisions and trainings.
* Maintain all relevant admin, monitoring, and data collection.
* Follow all One Family’s policies and procedures.
* To contribute to evaluations, policy, reports, funding
applications etc as requested.
* To maintain the high professional and ethical standard in the
provision of care to service users established by the One Family.
* This role will be line managed by the Director of Parenting &
Professional Development.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
* Have a relevant third level qualification (Early Years, Social
Care, Psychology, Community Work, etc. and have a minimum of 3 years
post qualification experience working with infants/young children and
parents.
* Have hands-on experience of working in groups with young children
and parents.
* Have experience of delivering group-based parenting programmes
both in person and on zoom, both manualised and informal.
* Have knowledge and practical experience of working with people who
have the lived experience of being from ethnic minority communities,
domestic violence, homelessness, poor mental health, shared parenting,
parenting post-separation and parenting alone.
* Have a working knowledge of Children First and the Meitheal
Process.
* Have a working knowledge of the HSE National Consent Policy and
how it applies dual consent in child and family settings.
* Excellent IT skills and capacity to engage with Salesforce.
* Have experience with intake and assessment of referrals.
* Have experience with managing service user files and related
interagency work.
* Be eligible to be Garda Vetted.
* Have experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
* Have a client-focussed perspective.
* Be enthusiastic and motivated.
* Be well organised with good attention to detail.
TERMS OF ROLE:
This is a fixed term contract from January to December **Apply on the
website**, for three days ( * hours) per week.
The role is based in the One Family offices in Coke Lane, Dublin 7.
Although this is a hybrid role, the majority of the role will be
carried out in person.
